Fun day at the Yorkshire Arboretum, Castle Howard

A fun day for Brownies, Cubs, Scouts and Guides at the Arboretum to participate in a range of activities including:
Pond dipping Explore and identify the fresh water invertebrates which live in the lake.
Explorienteering Explore the landscape of the arboretum through orienteering. Discover map skills and team work.
Story trail finding words of the season hanging in the trees plus meet a tree
Minibeast Hunt & Habitat Creation Go on a bug hunt, use the bug identification dials and explore the creatures’ habitats before creating one of your own,
Shelter building Create a shelter for you and your friends, which will keep you safe and dry. Test your teamwork and survival skills. Will your shelter survive the rain?
-Bee activity Roles in the hive, meet a bee keeper, see an empty hive to show structure, taste honey.
-Composting Sorting what can and can’t be recycled, or composted with plastic fruit and veg, make a mini wormery.
-Tansy beetle crafts
-Sustainability activity trees for medicine, food, furniture, reforestation
Bring your own packed lunch and be prepared for the outdoor weather on the day.
The cost is £12.50 per person. The activities will be run by the Arboretum staff although the appropriate number of leaders will be needed to supervise. These Leaders will gain free entry to the Arboretum, other Leaders and parents will pay the normal admission charge.
