             County Commissioner welcome

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the St Georges Day parade and service in both York and Selby; they were amazing and successful days. As County Commissioners we joined the event at York Minster, we were both immensely honoured to walk into the Minster behind our County Standard and were so impressed by the all the young people who took part in the service.  Afterwards as we stood on the saluting base watching the parade go by, we were delighted to see so many smiling faces, proud to wear their uniforms, taking part in this amazing event.  We chatted to Chief Constable for North Yorkshire, the Lord Lieutenant, the Lord Mayor of York and the Lady Mayoress, the Sherriff of York and his lady, and the High Sherriff of North Yorkshire and his lady, each one of them told us how amazing the Girlguiding organisation is, and what valuable benefits if offers our young people.  So THANK YOU for all you do, without you we wouldn’t have this incredible group of young people in North Yorkshire South.

As we move into the summer term plans are coming together for our camps, holidays, and days out. After the restrictions of the last two summers it's so exciting to be out and about again. Our PR Team are preparing to help units with their community events and village carnivals.  They can supply a range of publicity materials, banners, bunting and flags to help your stall look amazing. Clare our County PR Lead Volunteer can be contacted to book the material

Your Division and District Commissioners are there to help you, they are your first port of call for any queries, problems, or assistance you may need.  Sometimes we just need to talk through a problem, to get another opinion or just need pointing in the right direction. Your division will also have a series of advisors or lead volunteers who can help you with REN forms, accounts and budgeting, programme planning, using GO, etc.

We are in the early stages of planning a County Training Day for Saturday 1 October 2022.  What kind of training do you need? Tell us! We want to deliver what you need, not what we think you might need. Is it programme training, ideas sessions, new ideas for weekly meetings, suggestions for activities?  Just let us have your thoughts and we will “do our best” to provide it.

Going back to your summer events, after 2 years of nowhere to go, no events to attend please invite your County Commissioners to join you and wherever possible we will do our best to come along

Lesley and Alison

YAS have prepared a quiz sheet to raise funds for the various members from York in the North Yorkshire contingent going to the 25th World Scout Jamboree, which will be held in South Korea in 2023. This is an exciting adventure for these young people and your support would be much appreciated.

Your completed quiz sheet can be sent to York Active Support by 30 June, these will be entered into a draw for a £30 prize. You don't need to answer all the questions correctly to be entered into the draw!
