             County Commissioner welcome

November is the month of Remembrance. We recall loved ones no longer with us on the 2nd (All Souls Day), Guy Fawkes on the 5th, the sacrifice of people from our towns and villages on the 11th and on Remembrance Sunday (this year on the 13th) and St Andrew’s Day on the 30th to name but a few. Did you know, for example, that Mr Google says that the 13th is World Kindness Day?

What about in our own organisation? We all know about the appreciation we show for our Founders on Thinking Day, but do we take a moment to remember those who have been influential to us in our lives or in our units? In the York Castle Museum this year two former Leaders were featured in their “Her Story” exhibition, featuring 100 influential women from the city with the aim of making “Invisible Women Visible”. These were Mary York and Nellie Buckley. You can read their stories at 100 Women – HerStoryYork.

Who would feature in an Her Story exhibition in your unit? You may be surprised by your girls and young women, who they name – it could possibly be you! We are a forward-looking movement, but it’s good to also remember and celebrate our (local) history too. I am sure that Trefoil members would be delighted to be asked to help by sharing their memories. And whilst remembering, celebrating and appreciating those who have given dedicated service previously, let’s stop for a moment on World Kindness Day to show a little love to those who make Girlguiding happen today, including to yourself!

With our love and sincere appreciation to all of you, no matter what your role is in North Yorkshire South

Alison and Lesley

Larkin Jamboree 2024

North Yorkshire Scouts are planning an International Jamboree in 2024. This will be held the 27th July to 3rd August 2024 at Duncombe Park, Helmsley. There is a website and leaders are encourages to sign up for updates, so they get information as it is released. We would love Guide and Ranger units to join us at the Jamboree for a week of fun and adventure. Brownies and Rainbows will also be able to join in the fun with their own programmes.

Adults also have the option to be part of the organising team or the service team at the event and if leaders would like to do that, then they can use the Volunteer button on the website - we would love to see lots of Girlguiding members help deliver this International Jamboree in 2024!

Here is the
