             County Commissioner welcome

Well, that’s that over with for another year! Of course, I am talking about the annual subscription process. Thank you to those who paid HQ before the deadline. For the small number of units who didn’t do so (and therefore whose invoice is showing as “Unpaid”) please arrange to pay the full amount to our County Treasurer as soon as possible.

Of course it over simplifies matters to suggest that we don’t have to think about this until next year. This is where the planning starts for Subscription 2024: we need to budget for the year ahead, claim Gift Aid where we can and, if paying the 2023 Subscription has left you short of money, let us know! If you need help with any of these aspects of running your unit, please contact your local commissioner who will be happy to help, or to point you in the right direction to get that help.

Talking of help, this Newsletter is full of opportunities to help you to get ready for a summer of adventure and residential events. Have a look and come along. Whether you are experienced or new to Going Away With Girlguiding we are looking to make your residential successful and worry free. Now that is an offer not to be missed!

Larkin Jamboree 2024

North Yorkshire Scouts are planning an International Jamboree in 2024. This will be held the 27th July to 3rd August 2024 at Duncombe Park, Helmsley. There is a website and leaders are encourages to sign up for updates, so they get information as it is released. We would love Guide and Ranger units to join us at the Jamboree for a week of fun and adventure. Brownies and Rainbows will also be able to join in the fun with their own programmes.

Adults also have the option to be part of the organising team or the service team at the event and if leaders would like to do that, then they can use the Volunteer button on the website - we would love to see lots of Girlguiding members help deliver this International Jamboree in 2024!

The website is

Congratulations to Jackie Rodaway

Jackie Rodaway was presented with a Chief Commissioner Award at a surprise event on 15th March by Jan Ali, Deputy Region Chief Commissioner. Jackie is District Commissioner for South Bank District and has been associated with 12th York (Holgate Methodist) Guide Unit for over 40 years so it was fitting that this, and her 40 years Long Service Award, were presented at one of their Guide meetings.

York British Legion Festival of Remembrance

We have an opportunity for some young people to take part in the York Festival of Remembrance on 5 November 2023  at St Peters School from 2-5pm. We would like to hear from Scouts, Guides, Explorers or Rangers who have a connection with someone who served, or is serving, in the Armed Forces. Please ask parents to contact Nigel White by the end of April for more information via the following email: DC.Ebor@nys.org.uk
